    Elevator without doors!

The photo was taken this summer in an elevator to a “hotel” in Old town Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, and also known as the pearl of Africa.

What’s funnier? There was nothing on each end, literally nothing.

So what you have to do is to stand very still, in the center of the elevator, trying hard not to move your body or you’ll fall from height and RIP life.

That’s why I always heard from the doctor in the hospital that I was interning in, saying “I’d rather take the stairs. I don’t trust elevators.” This evokes me to reflect on my life here in HK. We take everything for granted.

Stepping into an elevator, we expect 100% of safety and efficiency that the elevator would take us to our destination in no time.

But things don’t always work out just fine here. People here sometimes need to risk their lives, for what? For just a ride going upstairs.

This phenomenon could have some relations with the political status in Egypt. In the following travel diary, more political tension around the Middle East and Africa would be further discussed.

Stay tuned and questions are always welcomed. Let’s speak out and learn more.
