"In fact, one calorie of animal #protein requires about 10xs the input of fossil fuel energy than 1calorie of #plantprotein . This input can be higher depending on the type of #meat produced. Feed production accounts for around 75%of fossil fuel use in #livestock production.
Worldwide, we use an average of 180 millions of tons of fertilizer to grow livestock feed and as the population grows and the demand for meat increases, it is projected we’ll need 230 million tons or 7.3 BILLIONS of gallons by 2050.
Its estimated the #agriculture industry in the U.S. uses about 17%of fossil fuel energy POWERING #factoryfarms , a large part of this expenditure (factory farms produce 99%of farm animals in the U.S alone). Dairy operations require additional energy to power automated flushing systems. #Dairy cows are milked in a concrete parlor and in an effort to keep the facility sanitary, many have power flushers to remove waste, dirt and excess milk from the floor. These systems use around 150 gallons of water PER #COW , PER DAY and must be run at all times! Cleaning #slaughterhouse ’s also requires an enormous amount of #water , estimated that slaughtering 1animal utilizes 132 gallons! heating/cooling/cleaning/ventilation, America’s 20,000 factory farms guzzle #fossil fuels. it takes about 2.5 units of #fossilfuels to process a single kilogram of #poultry , 6.3 units of fossil fuels per kilogram of #pork and around 4.7 units of fossil fuels for one kilogram of #beef . This is energy required to slaughter and process each kilogram of meat, and factoring the 70 billion of animals who are slaughtered for #food worldwide, annually, it’s an enormous amount of #energy .
Packaging/shipping this meat to #grocery stores also involves a huge amount of fossil fuels (approx 23%). we haven’t even taken into consideration the amount of energy that is expended by the consumer once they bring meat home”. • 🤝GOAL 3 Good health and well-being: "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages". Did you know that malnutrition not only refers to underweight but also to overweight and obesity?⠀

On 1 April 2016, the United Nations proclaimed 2016–2025 the United Nations Decade of Action on Nutrition. The Decade is an opportunity for addressing all forms of malnutrition. It sets out a timeline for implementing the commitments that are made in the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. Especially focussing on SDG 2 and 3. ⠀

We still have a few years left to achieve the goals, what is your input?⠀
