  • This true jewel of our collection represents the Dutch first rate ship of the line Hollandia. The original was built in 1665 for the Second Anglo-Dutch War, that lasted until 1667. Her three decks were armed with 80 guns and carried approximately 450 men. She started her duty being the flagship of Michiel de Ruyter, and fell under the command of Cornelius Tromp in 1666. From June the 11th of that year on, the Hollandia successfully took part in the Four Days Battle. This victory of the Dutch Navy over the British Royal Navy was probably the most memorable action she took part in. Nevertheless, she participated in numerous expedition and was actions until 1683. While she was coming back from an expedition to Gothenburg, she entered a terrible storm in front of the Northern Dutch coast. The ship was heavily damaged and the crew was no longer able to maneuver her. While the Hollandia was about to be rescued by the ship Moriaans Hoofd, she disappeared beneath the waves.
This is not a regular ship model. Mostly because it is entirely made of Amber - except the rigging, which is 14 carat gold. The ship was masterfully built by amber artist Alfred Schleege. It has been. Part of the collection Peter Tamm since the mid 1990s. It stands beside two other works of Alfred Schleege in the Treasure Chamber of the Museum, that you can find on deck 8.
