I’m 13.5 months postpartum. . . Just this past month have I felt the desire and readiness to participate in higher intensity physical activity. . . As a new Mom, I decided that I would not force my body to do any sort of exercise I didn’t feel ready for. . . During my first year postpartum I certainly made it a point to move my body regularly. Lots of walks (with my favorite walking buddy), some gentle yoga, some babywearing classes...but I kept it pretty low key. . . Yes, I had days where I felt uncomfortable in my body. . . Days when I felt like I “should” do more to lose the extra weight. . . But I wasn’t ready. For a whole bunch of reasons that I won’t dive into now. . . Then, about a month ago, my body started to crave more motion and intensity. With this, I decided to try a new form of exercise (& to learn a new skill). . . I signed up for @sarahsmithstrength‘s #kettlebells4coolkids program , simply because I thought it would be fun. Bonus if I can get stronger and extra bonus if my body physique changes. . . So far in my experience with movement postpartum I’ve been reminded of a few things. . . 1. Exercise should be fun. If it’s now- we’re probably not doing the right kind for ourselves (at least in the current season of life). . . 2. Exercise can and should be accessible. I think we (I 🙋‍♀️) tend to overcomplicate things and assume that a workout is going to take a ton of time away from our day/week. . . And . . 3. Honor your body. Then, about a month ago, my body started to crave more motion and intensity.  With this, I decided to try a new form of exercise (& to learn a new skill). .

I signed up for @sarahsmithstrength ‘s #kettlebells4coolkids program , simply because I thought it would be fun.  Bonus if I can get stronger and extra bonus if my body physique changes. .

So far in my experience with movement postpartum I’ve been reminded of a few things. .
.
1. Exercise should be fun.  If it’s now- we’re probably not doing the right kind for ourselves (at least in the current season of life).

.
2. Exercise can and should be accessible.  I think we (I 🙋‍♀️) tend to overcomplicate things and assume that a workout is going to take a ton of time away from our day/week. .

.
3. Honor your body.  If your body is asking for a break or lower intensity activity, indulge it.  If your craving different or new movements, explore this. .

💥 Time to light 💡 those abs up 💥 . . . Today we’re doing banded alt. Leg raises and banded scissor kicks! . Grab your girlfriends booty band or if you’re like me you already have one 👍🏻 . Place the band around your ankles and lay flat on your back. . Raise your legs 6 inches of the ground. Maintain a neutral neck, eyes and chin up at the ceiling. . Slowly alternate your legs up and down nice and controlled. . Do 10 reps each side then switch to scissor kicks. . Open and close the legs 10 times back and forth. . Hit 3 sets of 10 for both and let me know how your abs are feeling afterwards 👍🏻 . Save this workout so you can do it later and tag a friend below 😊👍🏻 . Questions? There’s always a couple drops left inside the bottle and the stopper that I don’t want to waste. I take the stopper out and throw all 3 pieces into a Mason jar that has Epsom salt in it. I shake it up to make sure the salt gets in all the nooks and crannies. Then the salt goes into baths. So easy and I’m not wasting Oils (I think of them as liquid gold). This is a staple in our house to go over pancakes and waffles. A simple, low-glycemic, berry compote using blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries as they are low-glycemic. 3 cups frozen fruit 1 tbsp. lemon juice liquid stevia (to taste) Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to medium heat. Once bubbling, reduce heat slightly and use a wooden spoon to mash the fruit. Continue cooking over medium-low heat for about 8 minutes, occasionally mashing fruit to combine. Remove from heat and serve over pancakes and waffles. Enjoy! Senior year I knew I wasn’t good enough to play Field Hockey in college so I thankfully fell across Crew. Always being an athlete throughout childhood I didn’t want to give up being an athlete in college. I have never been tested more emotionally, mentally, or physically than rowing with @endicottcollege🚣‍♀️ I was able to compete in @hocr1965in 2012 which was an ultimate goal. That was the peak of my athletic career. . Although I’m not as good as I used to be, I will be! It is more important to get the technique over power. It’s the same as any sport. Before you can squat with a medicine ball, you have to learn how to squat on a box. The worst thing you can do is pull your back out because you pushed too hard. . My goal is get to get back into the shape I was & this is my reminder that it is possible. Follow your dreams y’all - whatever you want IS possible. ✨ . p.s. Para hoy... col con achiote estilo cochinita pibil, acompañada de arroz integral con verduras y frijoles refritos ah y no podía faltar la cebollita morada con habanero 😋. A veces nos limitamos a comer ciertos alimentos o pensamos que una alimentación a base de verduras es aburrida creo que se puede seguir comiendo delicioso solo hay que darle variedad a nuestros alimentos para no aburrirnos y caer en la monotonía. Receta para el adobo estilo cochinita pibil: 1/2 barrita de achiote, el jugo de 1 naranja, el jugo de 2 limones, 1 pizca de clavo, 1/2 cucharadita de comino, 1/2 cucharadita de canela, 1 cucharadita de orégano, 1 diente de ajo, 1- 2 cucharadas de vinagre de manzana (con madre). Licuar todo. LA ☀️is the only place I’ve ever lived where pretty much everything is walkable but very few people walk to places 🤷🏼‍♀️ . I always prefer to walk then drive when I have the time ⏰ but honestly, because of the traffic here it’s usually faster to walk anyway. You’ll never find me on shoes that I can’t run in! ✅ Happy Monday Everyone! My strength is finally coming back 🙏... I did a 4x10 of 385 lbs. on squat this morning 😬... I woke up this morning 206 lbs. and my current calories are 2,800 ⬆️⬆️⬆️... ✅ Today I didn’t cook at home because I get to enjoy a Cheat Meal 😬. My cheat meal for today is Hawaiian BBQ as you can see🙌... The only reason why I have a cheat meal ( Not a Cheat Day 🙄) is because it gives me a mental reset for my next full week of tracking macros ☝️... : : : ✅ Also my cheat meal is not an additional meal... It is a substitute for one of my daytime meals... Don’t turn your Cheat Meal into a Cheat Day! You don’t want to ruin your weeks worth of working hard and sticking to your macros by one day or weekend of reckless eating 🤙...

🌈 Eat the rainbow to ensure you’re getting a whole range of nutrients in ya. When I was figuring out gluten intolerance life..I fell more in love with veggies than eating the grim processed “gluten free” products, it just makes so much sense and our body knows what to do with real food! This turned into a lifelong love of eating food as close to its natural form as possible, as much as possible! I reckon our energy levels, mood and digestion would be in a much better state if we all live by this 🙌🏼🥕 Where on earth to start though right? At my Spring Abundance Bowls workshop - of course!!
