  • I’ve inadvertently grown a wonderful ‘crop’ of Cerinthe flowers. They look magnificent in the garden where they self seeded, but I can’t work out what kind of vase would be best for display indoors (being droopy flowers). This is a white pinch pot, somewhat like a snowball I think. It’ll do for now, but my search continues...

  • I couldn& #039 ;t resist glazing some pieces with the leftover metallic glaze I have from the crown project. This particular recipe tends to make textured rivulets of gold.
    .
Not sure if I should make more since it& #039 ;s so different to the other glazes I use, but I& #039 ;m a bit of a magpie for metallic accents 🙈
I was picturing the tiny plates as night ring holders on a rustic bedside table. And the bigger ones as catch all dishes (maybe to leave the house keys) on a dark reclaimed wood side chest. Yes, very specific scene 😆

❄️ Next market: Craft Central at The Forge (London), 16-18 of November.

  • Guess who& #039 ;s coming to WONDERLAND? JANE MCEWEN! @janemcewen_ceramicist
Jane McEwen is a recent graduate from Contemporary Craft degree at Plymouth College of Art, specialising in ceramics. She started the degree as a mature student of 50 having previously facilitated art activities for both terminally ill patients and also dementia sufferers. She came to the realisation that you never know what life has in store for you and that gave her the push to go back into education.

Ceramics has given Jane the opportunity to express herself so succinctly in a creative sense. The mandala work that she produces is almost a meditative process for abd this work is produced by using Sgraffito (scratching through the coloured surface of underglaze to show the clay body below). She works spontaneously and each piece is totally unique. Her hope is that the pattern will intrigue the viewer, giving them a moment to slow down and absorb themselves within the object.

Her pieces are either hand-built or slipcast in white earthenware, which shows off the colours she applies beautifully.

  • one example of my new multiaxial color blend that i mixed. this one ended up over three feet wide when laid out like this! it offers a lot of information about how the center colorant interacts in various blends with two other colorants at a time. thanks to @artbyderfer for making all these tiles from clay and for supporting this research.
